All the world's a stage

So for a little light entertainment I stopped off at The Globe for a lunchtime play;

The Taming of The Shrew at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre on the Southbank.

It was HILARIOUS!

This is what The Globe says about the play:

Two wealthy sisters in Padua must be married off. The modest, demure Bianca has no shortage of suitors, but who on earth will take the wild, ungovernable, shrewish Katherina? Only the gold-digging Petruchio, a man as maddeningly strong-willed and perverse as Katherina herself, is equal to thetask of bullying her to the altar.
Shakespeare’s most outrageous comedy, The Taming of the Shrew introduces one of theatre’s great screwball double-acts, a couple hell-bent on confusing and outwitting each other right up to the play’s equivocal and controversial conclusion.

The Taming of the Shrew is a comedy by William Shakespeare, believed to have been written between 1590 and 1591.
The play begins with a framing device, often referred to as the induction in which a mischievous nobleman tricks a drunken tinker named Sly into believing he is actually a nobleman himself. The nobleman then has the play performed for Sly's diversion.
The main plot depicts the courtship of Petruchio, a gentleman of Verona and Katherina (Kate...haha), the headstrong, obdurate shrew. Initially, Katherina is an unwilling participant in the relationship, but Petruchio tempers her with various psychological torments—the "taming"—until she becomes a compliant and obedient bride. The subplot features a competition between the suitors of Katherina's more desirable sister, Bianca who is, in fact a bit of a ratbag herself.

These two actors were really good & stole the show.  Jolly well done!

I really missed mum during this play: I don't think I have ever been to the theatre without her.  She would have told me off for laughing so loud though...hehe.

Dad X
